SUSTAINABLE WEDDINGS

How do you have a sustainable wedding?

The day of wedding is going to be the greatest day of your life. Presently, weddings have shifted from large grand celebrations to small, intimate, and environmentally sustainable events. The eco-friendly theme of weddings is getting popular, as the world increasingly calls for a sustainable lifestyle. Wedding planners started to incorporate sustainability in events from something as small as local flowers and decors to something big as a plastic-free wedding. Here are some of the ways to make your wedding sustainable.

Venue: Marry in the great outdoors

If you are really passionate about an eco-friendly wedding, start by choosing a sustainable venue that reduces the carbon footprint of celebration. The easiest option for such a venue is to opt for an outdoor space. It reduces energy use by cutting down lighting and minimising the decors. Own nature as a backdrop for your wedding- a lush green garden, a beautiful lawn, rolling hills, a picturesque vineyard, or any other stunning destination. Thanks to the sunshine, it eliminates the use of lighting. And all natural light helps make you beautiful in photographs.

Decors: Look for Natural or Built-in decor

Eco-friendly decors do not mean using drab or trash for decorations. Look for more natural and reusable decors that give a grand look to your wedding.  Botanical plants are popular and it is obvious that natural flowers are more beautiful than decorative items. Source for seasonal flowers that are locally grown, and prefer potter plants, spray roses, and other herbs that can be planted again in your garden after the wedding. Brightly coloured fabrics can be used as drapes for a dreamy effect. Decors such as brass lanterns make the venue look wonderful while also being reusable.

Wedding invitations: Go eco-friendly

As the entire world is becoming eco-conscious, it is much easier to find eco-friendly paper for invites that are reusable or recyclable. One of the exclusive options is seed paper, which is getting popular. You can print your invites on seed paper, which can then sprout into flowers when planted. The plant grows and becomes a reminder of your wedding after a long time.Yet another alternative for wedding invitations would be to opt for e-invites.

Outfit: Capture the spirit of a Green wedding

You can switch up to the approach of a sustainable outfit by going vintage. Reuse your old silks, brocades, and ensembles to create a new design. It also clenches a sense of nostalgia with old memories, making the occasion more special. If you want to buy a new bridal outfit, be sure to incorporate hand-woven fabrics and traditional hand embroideries. These designs and embroideries could capture the spirit of a green wedding.

Menu: Opt for sustainable meals and crockeries

The food served on wedding occasions is of paramount importance in an Indian wedding. It is perceived as a sign of hospitality and culture. Locally obtained ingredients and locally sourced food should be the foundation of a sustainable meal. Prefer organic and hygienic food like salads.  Also, the wedding cutlery should certainly avoid any plastic and Styrofoam. Plant-based biodegradable crockery or reusable cutlery is a great option for a sustainable wedding.
